Welcome to Santiago, the capital of Chile. You will be met at the airport and privately escorted to your hotel. Your sightseeing tour takes you downtown featuring ‘La Moneda’, current seat of Government, the former national congress, the 18th-century cathedral and Santa Lucia Hill. Nearby, housed in an exquisite 19th century wrought iron building, is the Central Market, famous for its seafood and seafood restaurants. Then you head up to the most charming and artistic side of Santiago, the neighborhoods of Lastarria and Bellas Artes featuring the Forest Park, the Fine Arts Museum and the National Library. You pass by the ‘Avenida Italia’ on the border of Providencia and Nunoa districts, one of the most popular parts of the capital for great dining, cultural events and historic heritage. You finish your tour exploring ‘El Golf’, a modern neighborhood that mixes residential areas, offices and banks. El Golf is also nicknamed ‘Sanhattan’ due to the predominance of high modern building in the area.
Transfer to the airport for your morning flight to Easter Island. Welcome to Easter Island or ‘Rapa Nui’. You will be met at the airport and escorted to your hotel.
You will then make an excursion visiting the ceremonial site of Tahai with 3 Ahus and restored statues, remains of boathouses, a boat ramp and other features. Here we see the only statue with eyes re-inserted. In the nearby museum you will get an insight into the geology, geography and the history of Rapa Nui and its people. At the end of the tour you stop at the village of Hanga Roa to visit the church and the artisan market.
Drive southeast along the coastal road, with views of Poike and the whole coastline of black volcanic rock. The first stop is Vaihu where you have a look at the red-stone topknots of this Ahu (altar), here Moais lay face-down on the ground. On the way to your next site Ranu Raraku, you pass several Moais lying on the side of the road. The Ranu Raraku volcano was the quarry where all the Moais were sculpted. Your next stop is at Ahu Tongariki where you will be impressed by this giant Ahu and the 15 Moais on it. Then you have a break and visit Anakena, a big white sandy beach with a small palm grove.
Today you will be driven to the lookout point at the Rano Kao volcano, whose deep crater of lush vegetation contains a large fresh water lake covered with totora. In the ceremonial village of Orongo you can see many high-relief carvings of frigate bird-heated men are on the rocky outcrops. Here the competitions of the ‘birdmen’ were held at the summer solstice. The final station of your tour is Ahu Vinapu, where the interesting architectural style will remind you of the Inca’s masonry. In good time you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Santiago.
After breakfast you start your journey through the valleys of Curacavi and Casablanca to visit the beach area of Vina del Mar, known as the Garden City for its pretty parks and flower lined streets. By taking a walk on Concepcion Hill you will have the chance to discover its brightly-painted buildings, narrow windy streets and funiculars that make it so picturesque. Afterwards you will be driven to ‘Isla Negra’, the family seaside resort where the famous Chilean poet and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Pablo Neruda, spent a significant part of his life. You will be able to see his impressive collection of boats, seashells, bottles, stones and many more interesting artifacts that he has collected on his travels around the world. With the impressive views from almost every part of his house, it is easy to see how he got inspired for his writings
Your farewell lunch takes place at Miguel Torres. At this stylish but casual wine-restaurant the cuisine is matched with the wine selection. That is the basic concept and the motivation that made two family-run companies join efforts. On the one side, the Sagardi Group, with its long European tradition in the gastronomic scene and its love for the earth and everything it produces. And last but not least ‘Miguel Torres’ which is a hundred year old winemaking company, and one of the most recognizable names in Spanish wine, as well as a pioneer for winemaking in Chile.
