Welcome to Santiago, the capital of Chile. You will be met at the airport and privately escorted to your hotel.
The morning city tour in Santiago will begin in the colonial city center and the neoclassical La Moneda Palace, seat of the Government. You will then visit the Plaza de Armas, a picturesque square surrounded by the 18th century Cathedral Metropolitana and the Central Post Office. Afterwards, continue to the artistic life center of Bellavista and climb the Santa Lucia Hill, site of the foundation of Santiago in 1541. The tour ends in the modern part of Santiago, exploring the elegant residential and commercial areas of Providencia and Las Condes. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Today you head northwest of Santiago to Viña del Mar and Valparaiso. Admire the view as you travel through the coastal mountain range towards the Pacific Coast. You first drive through Viña del Mar, an elegant and sophisticated seaside resort with fine hotels, palm tree-lines avenues and lovely villas. Visit its famous ‘Quinta Vergara’, formerly home of Viña’s founding family and today internationally known for its annual music festival. Continue to the historic port of Valparaiso (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) that is set on a crescent of hills and is famous for its labyrinth-style and funicular railways. Enjoy a relaxing lunch (not included) before returning to your hotel in Santiago.
Transfer to the airport for your morning flight to Calama. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
You will be picked up at your hotel in the afternoon to enjoy a spectacular sunset in the Moon Valley. The Valley is similar to a fantastic moon landscape that is a part of the Cordillera de la Sal (Salt Mountain Range) within Los Flamencos National Reserve. It is a small depression of salt, 500m in diameter, which has formed over the years into strange shapes. Because of the total lack of water, there is no life here, so this is one of the most inhospitable places on earth. Explore this amazing place with its bizarre rock formations and marvel at the silent moonscape of this valley, with its strange figures that nature has formed of salt and clay. You will see the salt figures ‘Tres Marias’, and the Salt Caverns at sunset, which make it even more beautiful. There is an optional short hike to one of the giant sand dunes in the valley if you so desire.
Pick up at your hotel is around 4.00 AM to head north to the famous El Tatio Geysers, elevation 4,400 m (14,500 ft), arriving before sunrise. Super-heated water emerges powerfully from the frozen ground in over 100 geysers, boiling pools and fumaroles. You will enjoy a nice breakfast next to the geysers and afterwards take a walk around the geothermal field close to this natural wonder. If possible (depending on the activity of the geyser) you can take a bath in the hot thermal pools. Later you will drive on to visit Machuca, a former ancestral site, with houses built in the traditional way. Then return to San Pedro and arrive there around midday.
Pick up in Hito Cajon, the frontier between Chile and Bolivia, where the jeep 4WD will be waiting to begin the tour, it begins at White and Green Lagoon one of the pearls of the Reserve at its best moment; we are now at the foot of Licancabur volcano. Continuing to the Dali Desert, there are surrealist columns of stones sculpted by the wind, and then you will find the hot springs and geysers of Sol de Mañana. This day ends in Red Lagoon, the main flamingos nesting site and the visit to the Stone tree.
Traveling through the Siloli Desert, we will make some quick stops to take pictures of the incredible scenarios. On our way we will appreciate the lagoons called “Joyas Altoandinas” (Jewels from the High lands): Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarcota and Honda where you will have the chance to see different kinds of local birds
We get into the Salt Flat, to the south-east to arrive to the “Isla Incahuasi”, located in the center of the salt flat, where there are extraordinary calcareous rocks, large populations of Cactus, caves, tunnels and a spectacular 360 grades panoramic view of the Salt Flat from the top. We will continue our visit we might be able to see optic illusions, able to see just in raining season (December- March), and also we will visit “Ojos de Agua” (Eyes of water), small salt water eruptions which help us to explain the development of this salt lake. We leave the salt flat behind and head to the Train Cemetery where you can learn more about Uyuni’s mining past and its present, we return back to the town of Colchani to stay for the overnight.
An early morning transfer to the airport of Uyuni and flight to La Paz. Due to the early departure there may not be sufficient time for breakfast.
After arrival in La Paz you will be transferred to your hotel.
In the afternoon you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of La Paz. Tour highlights in the old town include the Plaza Murillo and the Jaen Street featuring Spanish colonial architecture. The tour continues to the residential areas of Obrajes, Calacoto and La Florida and ends with the visit to the bizarre Moon Valley, offering a very unique landscape.
After breakfast you will start your journey by bus to Huatajata where you will explore the ‘Andean Roots’ cultural village. Here you have the opportunity to meet the Limachi brothers, builders of the ‘Ra II’ and the ‘Tigris’ reed boats for Thor Heyerdahl’s famous expeditions. Afterwards you will continue by bus to Copacabana and get to know the colonial church and its famous dark virgin before boarding a hydrofoil to the Moon Island. This island’s main attraction is the ‘Inak Uyu’ Sun Virgin’s temple, which is considered one of the lake’s most important archaeological sites. Afterwards you will sail to the mythical Sun Island. According to the legend it was here where the Inca couple Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo emerged from the lake to form the Empire of the Sun. You will visit the Inca steps and the sacred fountain before eating lunch at the Uma Kollu restaurant, which features an authentic Inca terrace and a splendid lake view. Afterwards you will return by boat to Copacabana and finally to Puno by bus.
A ten-hour bus trip takes you through picturesque Andean landscapes dotted by small villages and herds of llamas and vicunas. Your final destination is Cusco, however you make three important stops along your way: the first one is at La Raya Pass (4,335 m/ 14,172 ft) to enjoy a panoramic view of the snow-capped Andes. Lunch will be served in a typical restaurant in Sicuani. Then your tour continues to visit the Viracocha Temple. This was the only Inca temple featuring cylindrical stone columns covered by fine clay layers. The last stop is in Andahuaylillas, known for its baroque church dating back from the 17th century. Upon arrival in Cusco you will be transferred to your hotel.
Your comprehensive city tour includes the beautiful Koricancha or Sun Temple, the main square Cathedral, the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a most remarkable Inca building and the amphitheater of Kenko. This is followed by a visit to Puca Pucara, a strategically located ‘red fortress’ that dominates the entire area before visiting Tambomachay, that has two distinctive aqueducts that to this day continue to provide clean water to the area.
A morning transfer by coach will take you to Ollanta train station. The 1 ½ -hour train ride train takes you through the Sacred Valley of the Incas up to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival a small coach takes you up the steep roads to the entrance of the citadel. For centuries Machu Picchu remained undiscovered by the Spaniards and has only been found in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. During a guided tour you will experience the uniqueness of the location and the genius that went into its construction, making this Inca site one of the seven new wonders of the world.
After the guided excursion you will enjoy lunch in Aguas Calientes before you return to the Ollanta train station, where you will be met and transferred by coach to Cusco.
Enjoy a day of leisure to explore the city at your own pace.
After a morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima, your guide will welcome you at the airport. Your sightseeing tour explores Miraflores and San Isidro, the modern districts of Lima as well as its historic center, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassic movements reached Peru, which is reflected in the well-preserved buildings that offer a glimpse of the blend of past and present that characterize the capital. One of the best examples included in your tour is the cathedral (16th century) that contains the remains of the Spanish conqueror Pizarro. Another stop will be at the Santo Domingo Monastery, where the first university in South America was founded in 1551, San Marcos. In addition to its notable Baroque architecture and art pieces the monastery offers a 360-degree city view from its 46-meter bell tower.
In good time you will be transferred to the airport to take your international flight.
